  • April Meeting

It’s time for our last meeting of this term, so we’d love to see you at the meeting. We’ll be assembling our prize baskets, so please bring any donations you have to add to them. And our show and tell theme is Fair MAYdens. Or anything you’re just waiting to show off! The meeting is at the same time, same place as always. We’re hoping to see you there!

  • Beauty and the Beast

There is a new live action Beauty and The Beast movie coming out this March, and the dolls done by Disney [available at the Disney Store] have now been released, done in the likeness of the actors portraying them. There’s been some mixed reviews on them, however, with some claiming the Belle doll, done in Emma Watson’s likeness, looks more like a female Justin Bieber. Some find the Beast doll a little scary. But of course, that all comes down to a matter of opinion, and if you’re a huge Beauty and the Beast fan, you’re sure to like them. They have a set with a regularly dressed Belle and Gaston, and individually, they have both Belle and the Beast, in their fancy outfits.

  • Zomby Gaga

Monster High has teamed up with Lady Gaga to create Zomby Gaga to create this adult collector doll. The collaboration is to represent bravery, kindness and acceptance. Her outfit is roughly based on Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” music video. She comes with some extra accessories, and an extra outfit, as seen above, along with suspenders with heart clips, sunglasses, patent leather boots, and her bubble gum, which can be removed or placed back in her mouth, depending on your mood. If I’m understanding correctly, I think a portion of each Zomby Gaga doll sales go to the Born This Way Foundation, to help further the mission of empowering young people to create a kinder and braver world.

  • Transforming Draculaura

Monster High has come out with a new Draculaura, with some transforming fashion! She goes from wearing a high low style dress, and with the flick of the plastic piece of her dress that sits on her tummy and chest, her wings come up, and she goes from vampire to bat!

  • Harlem Theatre Barbies

The Harlem Theatre series in The Barbie Collection introduces two dolls that celebrate the “Harlem Renaissance” of the early 20th century, where there was a rise of influential musicians, writers, painters, photographers, and poets. Claudette Gordon is a Jazz singer, and Madam LaVinia is the nightclub owner who helps talented people like Claudette find their audience.

  • Star Trek 50th Anniversary Dolls

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, they’ve gone back to where it all started…the original TV series. There are three dolls released for this collection, which are sculpted in the likenesses of the actors who portrayed them: William Shatner as Captain Kirk, Nichelle Nichols as Lieutenant Uhura, and Leonard Nimoy as Spock. A must have for any Star Trek fans!

  • 2016 Holiday Barbies

For the 2016 Holiday Barbies, Mattel went in a slightly different direction. Instead of one fancy, elaborate doll, they instead came out with three dolls, in more simple gowns in three different colors, and each with rather different faces. They were each sold individually, with boxes shaped like snow globes they’re standing within. They are considered the Peace – Hope – Love Collection. Depending on the store, some kept the price point the same as the normal Holiday Barbies, whereas others cut the price down almost in half. And unlike previous years, they actually seemed to sell out before Christmas. Did anyone manage to find these Holiday Barbies? If so, please bring them to a meeting, as we would love to see them!
